Work starts on major technical learning hub at Loughborough College

Work has begun on a new East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT) building at Loughborough College, set to advance the region as a major tech learning hub. 

 

The EMIOT is a partnership between Loughborough College, Loughborough University, Derby College and the University of Derby. 

From September 2024 it will begin delivering the very best in technical education for students – from T-Levels through to postgraduate education - with high-quality training and qualifications in engineering, digital and professional construction. EMIoT will focus on skills for a green economy, future energy and leadership in those fields. 

Construction company the Lindum Group will build the £6.5million, three-storey building; which will include nine classrooms, four science labs, two open plan working spaces and three offices. 

The facility will enable the training of students in the critical engineering, manufacturing and digital skills required by local and national employers. 

Initial ground works and site set up has already begun, with plans to finish the project in March 2025.
